An encounter with history: Białystok synagogues

Marta Pietruszko will talk about the synagogues of Białystok, both existing and extinct!

The Śródmieście Cultural Centre in Białystok invites you to ‘An Encounter with History: Białystok Synagogues,’ which will take place on 28 October at 6 p.m. at 13 Kilińskiego Street. Admission is free!

Before the war, there were about 80 synagogues in Białystok. Only three remain today: Samuel Mohilewer’s synagogue on Branickiego Street, the synagogue in Piaski on Piękna Street, and the Cytron synagogue on Waryńskiego Street. Marta Pietruszko, head of the Regional Research Department at the Slendziński Gallery, will talk about existing and defunct synagogues, as well as the construction and functions of synagogues. She will also discuss the value and significance of the discovery made in the attic of the Cytron Synagogue in 2022.
