Exhibition of paintings and drawings “In My Eyes” by Olha Danova can be seen at the “Śródmieście” Community Center in Białystok. The opening of the exhibition “In My Eyes” will take place on December 13 at 18:00.
Olha Danova is an artist from Ukraine, from the city of Zaporozhye. She is a graduate of the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Art. For over 8 years, she has been teaching artistic disciplines to people of all ages – both children and adults. Traveling is an important element in her life, as it is primarily a source of creative inspiration.
– Travelling and living in Italy, the masters of the Renaissance, walking through museums, the colors and the air of this country had a huge impact on my work – says Olha Danova.
There are two components: the external image and the internal world.
– I tried to show my own world in my paintings. This world is like a mirror – it allows me to look at someone else’s reality through my eyes. I also show loneliness, which means that we live alone with our thoughts and feelings. There are two components: the external image and the internal world.
It’s very easy to convey the visual likeness of a person – you can learn it, but conveying the inner world only by means of an image is a difficult task, and I love complex tasks – says Danova.
The exhibition at the “Śródmieście” Community Center in Białystok will feature a series of 20 paintings made using oil painting and drawing-graphic techniques. They were created from 2016 to 2022. The artist departs from the traditional manner in portraits and creates them according to her own vision. Most of the works depict female figures who symbolize strength, endurance and stability.
Every painting is a part of me
– Every painting has its own story. Each image is a part of me, my experiences, my love. The paintings are a message of my life changes, searching for myself and the belief that the best is yet to come. Images of women often appear in my works because I think that a woman is strength, endurance and stability. Feminine sensuality is strength. In my opinion, this is the image of a woman – a woman that I myself am, explains Olha Danova.
While still living in Ukraine, the artist belonged to a rock band. Back then, lyrics and melody were her means of self-expression. That is why she added fragments of her own songs and poems to individual works in order to more accurately reflect the mood of the paintings.
These are emotionally intense images, but at the same time filled with static, immobility and impossibility to move around this dynamic world – a world of chaos and a world of silence, a world of indifference and war, a world of understanding and compassion. There is nothing more interesting and mysterious than the human face and eyes – the mirror of the soul – behind which you can see this great, diverse world – sums up the artist.
Exhibition opening
The opening of the exhibition “In My Eyes” by Olha Danova will take place on December 13 (Tuesday) at 6 pm as part of the Municipal Art Salon of the “Śródmieście” Community Center in Białystok (Jana Kilińskiego 13 street, 2nd floor). The exhibition can be viewed from Monday to Friday – 10 am – 6 pm, admission is free.
The exhibition will be open until January 20, 2023.
