The director of the “Śródmieście” Community Center in Białystok invites you to the concert of the Walicki-Popiołek Duo, which will take place on April 25, 2023 at the Sleńdziński Art Gallery in Białystok.
The band has existed since 2014, and it is made up of two young, talented graduates of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. Karola Lipiński in Wrocław – guitarist Jakub Walicki and pianist Aleksandra Popiołek-Walicki. The musicians also completed post-graduate studies at the Academy of Music. Karol Szymanowski in Katowice, and in 2020 and 2021 they started the implementation of doctoral theses at the same Academy.
An intimate guitar and piano duo
On April 25, you will be able to hear the original duet – guitar with piano accompaniment. Musicians find inspiration in the music of Spanish and Argentinian composers, such as Manuel De Falla, Joaquin Malats, Isaac Albeniz, Astor Piazzolla. They engaged Polish contemporary artists in their projects, including: Aleksandra Chmielewska, Jan Oleszkowicz, Adrian Robak, and Ewa Fabiańska-Jelińska. The duo’s transcriptions are appreciated and published in one of the best classical publications in the world “Universal Editions”. In January 2020, the band’s debut album “Iberico” was released, featuring music from Spanish-speaking countries. In February 2021, the second album of the band “Made in Poland” with works by Polish contemporary composers was released. In July 2021, the duo published on streaming services the world premieres of Dusan Bogdanovic’s “Divertimento No. 2” and “Oliva e Lava” by Victor Frost.
Concert activity
The Walicki-Popiołek Duo band establishes numerous collaborations with composers and arrangers, performs previously unrecorded songs and supports the development of chamber guitar and piano music. The musicians have won competition awards, such as the 2nd prize at the XXI International Chamber Competition “Euterpe” in Corato, the 2nd prize at the 25th International Chamber Competition “Giulio Rospigliosi” in Lamporecchio and the 3rd prize at the International Chamber Competition “Don Vincenzo Vitti” in Castellana Grotte. In February 2020, they were honored with the prestigious scholarship of the National Center for Culture “Young Poland”.
An unusual ensemble coming soon in Białystok
The concert will take place on April 25 (Tuesday) at 18:00 in the Sleńdziński Art Gallery in Białystok (Rynek Kościuszki 4). Free admission – free tickets are required, available at the secretary’s office of the “Śródmieście” Cultural Center in Białystok from Monday to Friday from 8:00-18:00.
