The play ‘Pierwsza lepsza’ (The First One That Comes Along), directed by Patryk Bołtryk

Come and see the show on 25 September!

Is it acceptable to declare one’s love for the first person one encounters? Aleksander Fredro demonstrates that such an idea is a recipe for a series of amusing complications. His one-act comedy ‘Pierwsza lepsza’ (The First One) continues to entertain with its witty dialogue and irony.

Disappointed with the world of women, Mr Alfred decides to prove their frivolity. As a joke, he confesses his feelings to the first stranger he meets. However, he encounters a young widow who turns out to be smarter than he could have imagined. A game of appearances, intrigues and feelings begins, in which the man falls into his own trap.

Fredro, a master of comedic observation, humorously shows that disregarding other people and recklessly playing with love can backfire. Pierwsza lepsza (The First One That Comes Along) is a short but sophisticated play that has been reminding us for over two centuries that it is not worth playing with the heart, even as a joke.

The performance will take place on 25 September at 8 p.m. at the Śródmieście Cultural Centre in Białystok (ul. Kilińskiego 13, 3rd floor). Free tickets are required and can be collected from the Śródmieście Cultural Centre office from 17 September. 9:30.
