Exhibition inspired by the period of the 1930s “Only on Kilińskiego Street”

„To tylko na ulicy Kilińskiego” wystawa

“Śródmieście” Cemmunity Center and Galeria im. Sleńdziński in Białystok invite you to an exhibition inspired by the 1930s “Only on Kilińskiego Street”.

It is a unique exhibition, thanks to which you can feel the spirit of the interwar period. The presented fashion creations are a contemporary style from the 1930s. The stylizations are dominated by fashionable pastel colors at the time, and above all beige. In addition to colors, simplicity, comfort and functionality of clothing were important. The feminine character of the styling was emphasized by belts and ribbons at the waist as well as fitted dresses, waisted jackets and suits. Other items of women’s clothing on display, including handbags, trinkets, hats and boxes, are souvenirs from the private collection of the Bialystok collector.

But that’s not all – the exhibition also includes authentic exhibits from the salon from the 1930s. The interwar period was the time in which the Art Deco style was dominant. Characteristic elements of the decor from this period are paintings, sculptures and other decorations made with special attention to quality, i.e. from expensive and durable materials, such as ivory, ebony or marble.

The exhibition is complemented by photographs depicting Bialystok women in the 1930s. It is easy to see what the inhabitants of Bialystok wore in the 1930s and what the different corners of the city looked like. The author of the photograph is Bolesław Augustis – a Bialystok resident and a famous photographer from the interwar period. His works have not only a documentary function, but also provide aesthetic impressions.

The exhibition is open from May 28 to June 2, 2023.
